Origin
The Scottish Rite's documented history traces to approximately 1733 in Europe, with formal establishment in the United States occurring in 1801. Among Prince Hall Masons, the first recognized organization began in Philadelphia around 1820, leading to the formation of the United Supreme Council in 1881.
Our Brotherhood
We are a Brotherhood like none other, where members continue to explore the moral and social virtues first encountered in the Craft Degrees. Membership progresses through Degrees 4 through 32, confronting the great challenges of every age:
Membership requires a sincere belief in a Supreme Being. The Scottish Rite accepts all faiths; it is not a religion, but a way of life.
Our ladies auxiliary (the Golden Circle) includes wives, mothers, daughters, and sisters of our members, extending the spirit of brotherhood to the whole family.
Service & Impact
Located at 1500 Fitzwater Street, our House and Tower provides 231 affordable housing units for elderly South Philadelphia residents, a concrete expression of our commitment to community.
"From Cradle to College": our mentoring program connects at-risk youth with Masonic brothers committed to guiding the next generation toward higher education and productive lives.
Through annual charitable distributions, the Benevolent Foundation extends our values of service and care beyond the lodge room and into the communities we call home.
We provide need-based financial assistance to students in underserved communities, ensuring that the pursuit of education is not limited by economic circumstance.

Degrees Conferred
Each degree of the Scottish Rite carries distinct philosophical and moral teachings. From the Lodge of Perfection through the Chapter of Rose Croix, Council of Kadosh, and Consistory, the 29 degrees build upon one another, shaping a Mason of greater wisdom, character, and purpose.
