Biography
1899–1920
Emanuel Consistory No. 1/DeMolay Consistory No. 1 · Valley of Philadelphia · Orient of Pennsylvania
Illustrious Kelly was the fourth Most Puissant Sovereign Grand Commander to hold membership in DeMolay Consistory No. 1. He had previously served as the Most Puissant Sovereign Grand Commander of the King Frederick Supreme Council immediately before it united with King David Supreme Council to create the United Supreme Council, Northern Jurisdiction. He was extremely integral to that process. In spite of the bogus freemasonry that plagued his predecessors, he went about the jurisdiction chartering Consistories and healing misinformed Fraters. He also presided over the first joint Council of Deliberation (1908) between the Prince Hall Northern and Southern Jurisdictions. The first joint publication came to fruition from this meeting which established and made known the legal status of both United Supreme Councils. There is a Consistory in the Valley of Omaha, Orient of Nebraska named in his honor—Joshua D. (David) Kelly Consistory No. 27.
