3rd Sovereign Grand Commander
1887–1889
Biography
1887–1889
Holy Sepulchre Consistory No. 17 · Valley of Boston · Orient of Massachusetts
Illustrious Gray assisted the United Supreme Council in settling in the Northeast as he was the Deputy for that area—Massachusetts and New Hampshire—before ascending to the Sovereign's chair. He encountered slow progress in advancing the Rite due to the proliferation of bogus freemasonry. Owing to his own personal issues, he sold all the property of the United Supreme Council in his possession and absconded with the funds. He was removed from office in absentia—our only Most Puissant Sovereign Grand Commander to suffer this indignity.
